Michael Preston Brown was born Oct 27, 1992 in Cincinnati, Ohio. At age 6 he began playing football for Hilltop Youth Athletics. He played running back and nose tackle, dominating on both sides of the ball. His most memorable moment was being awarded the Super Bowl 2000 MVP title. His team competed “undefeated” for several years and Preston became affectionately known as a little league legend.
As a 2010 graduate of Northwest High School Preston competed in football and basketball. As a senior basketball player his team earned a share of the league championship and Preston was named 1st Team All-FAVC. He is a three-year varsity letter winner in football, a two-time 1st Team All-FAVC, 1st Team All-City selection, 1st Team All-District and 2nd Team All-State honors recipient. While at Northwest he played linebacker and running back – rushing for 1,000 all-purpose yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior. He was also an active member of the U-Knighted Knights and keeps close ties to his alma mater. In recognition of his outstanding service and achievements, Preston was voted into the NWHS class of 2015 Hall of Fame.
Preston earned a full athletic scholarship to the University of Louisville and graduated in December 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in Education. Playing for Coach Charlie Strong, he was a three-year starter at linebacker amassing a career total 301 tackles. During his junior season, Preston emerged as one of the leading linebackers in the country for a Louisville team that went 11-2, won a Big East Championship and beat Florida in the Sugar Bowl. While at Louisville he earned 2nd Team All-Big East and 2nd Team All-American Athletic Conference selections. As a senior, he lead Louisville in tackles as the Cardinals went 12-1 and won the American Athletic Conference. Preston was named to the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame All-Collegiate Team, and selected to play in the East-West Shrine All-Star Game.
In the 2014 NFL draft, Preston was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the 3rd round (73rd overall pick). As a rookie inside linebacker he recorded 109 tackles - the most among Bills’ defenders and second among NFL rookies. He produced 100+ tackles in each of his first four NFL seasons, increasing in production every year. During the 2017 season, Preston lead the NFL with 144 tackles. On March 16, 2018, as an Unrestricted Free Agent, Preston signed to play for his hometown Cincinnati Bengals.
Preston volunteers much of his time and resources to support various local and national organizations. He is focused on giving back through a variety of outlets, including an annual free Youth Football and Cheer Camp. In recognition of his philanthropic endeavors he was selected by the NFLPA as a Community MVP runner-up for week 7 of the 2019 NFL season.
